The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has unveiled a six-point security plan for the 2027 general elections, built around intelligence, training, joint operations, rapid communication, public partnership and political neutrality.
Speaking at the 2026 CARSPO in Owerri, Imo State, Disu ordered the immediate mapping of election flashpoints and criminal networks, specialised training for officers and joint exercises with INEC and other security agencies.
He also ordered swift action against election disinformation, including fake results, forged police statements and inflammatory online content.
Disu warned that officers who take sides, harass voters or collude with political actors would face investigation and punishment.
He set October 12 as the deadline for the completion of the election-security roadmap and taskforce.
Meanwhile, the IGP disclosed that police have arrested 1,643 suspects, rescued 1,066 kidnap victims and recovered 947 firearms and over 22,000 rounds of ammunition since he assumed office in February.
“We will not slow down on these threats because an election is coming. We will fight them and secure the elections at the same time,” Disu said.
His charge to officers: “Neutral. Prepared. Present. Accountable.”
