Founder and chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has announced a massive cash incentive for the Super Eagles following their victory over Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter final, pledging rewards that could amount to about N2.24 billion at current parallel market rates, excluding goal bonuses.
Rabiu made the announcement on Friday in a post on X, praising the national team for lifting the mood of the country with their performance and assuring them of his support ahead of the semi finals.
Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria,” Rabiu wrote. “You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi finals.”
He said the incentives were meant to encourage the players as they push for a place in the final and possibly lift the AFCON trophy.
“To encourage you, I pledge USD 500,000 to the players upon winning the semi final, with an additional USD 50,000 for every goal scored,” Rabiu stated.
The industrialist went further, linking even bigger rewards to winning the tournament.
“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD 1,000,000, plus USD 100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” he added.
In total, Rabiu’s fixed pledges for winning the semi final and final amount to USD 1.5 million. Converted at an estimated parallel market exchange rate of N1,495 to one dollar, the sum translates to approximately N2.24 billion.
The goal related incentives would significantly increase the overall payout. The promised USD 50,000 per goal in the semi final converts to about N74.75 million for each goal, while the USD 100,000 per goal in the final is equivalent to roughly N149.5 million per goal at the same rate.
