A new Commissioner of Police has assumed leadership of the Lagos State Command as Tijani Fatai officially took over duties on Wednesday, becoming the 42nd CP in the state.
Fatai succeeds Olohundare Jimoh, who held the position from February 18, 2025, until March 26, 2026.
A native of Agege in Lagos State, the new police chief attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, before proceeding to Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, where he earned a degree in Philosophy.
Fatai joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in June 1994 and has since held several strategic positions across the country.
Before his latest appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt. He also held roles as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Maritime Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos and at the Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
His extensive career includes postings as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Zone 2 Command, Onikan, and Area Commander in Ilaro, Maiduguri Metro, and Area C, Surulere. He also served as Squadron Commander in Benin and Akure, Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos, and Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ijanikin, and Alakara.
Fatai is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
In his first remarks as Commissioner, Fatai assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to strengthening security across Lagos State. He pledged to build on existing reforms, improve inter-agency collaboration, and foster stronger community partnerships.
He also emphasized the need to align policing strategies with global best practices while ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The Lagos State Police Command called on members of the public to support the new leadership in its efforts to enhance professionalism, discipline, and service delivery across the state.
