The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has decorated seven newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) today and charged them to strengthen intelligence-led policing, deepen inter-agency collaboration and enhance operational coordination across the country.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony, Disu urged the senior officers to deploy their extensive professional experience to reinforce accountability within the ranks and improve the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers decorated with the rank of DIG include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had been decorated earlier.
Disu said the new rank places the officers at the highest levels of the Force’s strategic leadership and comes with significant responsibilities for strengthening professionalism, discipline and public trust in policing.
“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and build trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect,” the IGP said.
Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service.”
He noted that promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the Nigeria Police Force, requiring integrity, courage and unwavering commitment to justice.
According to him, the newly decorated DIGs are expected to provide institutional direction, strengthen internal discipline and drive ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the police for more effective service delivery.
The police chief also highlighted evolving security challenges confronting the country, including organised crime, cyber-enabled threats and violent criminal networks, stressing that the leadership of the Force must remain strategic and forward-looking.
As members of the top strategic leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, you are entrusted with responsibilities that go beyond operational command. You must ensure our policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape,” he said.
Disu further urged the officers to uphold professionalism and accountability while contributing to efforts to transform the Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused policing institution.
The IGP also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support toward strengthening the operational capacity of the police. He equally commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
Congratulating the newly decorated officers, Disu expressed confidence that they would justify the trust reposed in them and contribute to strengthening the professionalism and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
