The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a sweeping crackdown on crime, arresting no fewer than 47 suspects and recovering firearms, stolen vehicles, and other incriminating items across the state.

Addressing journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, said the arrests were part of intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbers, cultists, fraudsters, and car theft syndicates.

He disclosed that the Command recovered 14 firearms, including locally made pistols and pump-action guns, as well as ammunition, 14 vehicles, laptops, mobile phones, and other exhibits linked to criminal activities.

The police boss also highlighted the Command’s success in securing a peaceful Easter celebration, noting that proactive deployment of officers across churches, highways, and public spaces ensured a hitch-free holiday with no major security breaches recorded.

Among the major breakthroughs was the arrest of a notorious armed robbery suspect in Amukoko, as well as a suspected cultist linked to the Aiye confraternity in Ajegunle. In a separate operation, 21 suspected cult members were rounded up at a hotel in Ajao Estate during a gathering.

Operatives also foiled a ₦20 million extortion plot in Ojokoro, arresting an 18-year-old suspect during a decoy operation. In another case, a five-man car theft syndicate was dismantled, with stolen vehicles recovered.

Further arrests included a suspected serial fraudster accused of defrauding a microfinance bank of ₦130 million and using the proceeds to acquire luxury vehicles valued at over ₦520 million.

The Command also made gains in its ongoing mop-up of illegal arms, recovering additional firearms, ammunition, and vehicles suspected to have been used in criminal operations.

CP Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding Lagos of crime, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies.

“All suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” he said, warning that the police would not tolerate any form of criminality in the state.
