Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a driver, Olaide Kolawole, for allegedly stealing $2,200, about N3.08m, from his employer in the Ilupeju area of the state.
A police source privy to the development told PUNCH on Saturday that the incident was reported at the Ilupeju Police Station in the early hours of March 24, 2026.
The source added that the complainant, an Indian national resident in the area, reported that the suspect allegedly stole the money on March 23 at about 6 pm.
“The incident was reported at the Ilupeju Police Station in the early hours of March 24, 2026. Upon receiving the complaint around 5:59 am on March 24, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adeuti Oluwafunmilayo, directed the crime team to immediately commence an investigation into the matter,” the source explained.
The police source further disclosed that the operation led to the arrest of the driver and the recovery of the money.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident.
She added that the police team swiftly tracked and arrested the suspect, who subsequently confessed to the theft.
“The stolen sum was reportedly recovered in full and returned to the owner within 10 hours of the report. Police authorities said the case would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” she added.
In an appreciation message sent to the police and sighted by PUNCH , the employer commended the quick action of the Ilupeju Police Division, especially the DPO.
He noted that he was able to recover the money within 10 hours as a result of the officers’ efficiency and cooperation.
“I was able to recover all my stolen money within just 10 hours. Honestly, I never expected such fast and professional service from the police in Nigeria. Their response was even faster and more effective than many police services in India.
“The police also traced and handled the driver, Kola, and the person, Alhaji, who helped him convert the stolen USD into Naira. Their prompt action ensured the full recovery of the amount. I am extremely grateful to CPS Oluwafunmilayo Adeuti and the entire Ilupeju Police team for their dedication and support,” the message read.
