The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits following a court order halting the exercise.

Confirming the development on Wednesday while respondimg to questions on AIT programme, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the suspension followed the official receipt of the court order by the Force Headquarters.

“Information reaching me from the office of the Force PRO is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted glass permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh said.

She added that the police would comply fully with the judicial directive and await the court’s final decision before taking further action.

According to her, the suspension will remain in effect until the ongoing legal proceedings are concluded. She explained that the tinted glass permit policy was initially introduced for security reasons, following reports that some criminals used vehicles with darkened windows to evade detection.

The law was not made by us; we are only enforcers,” Adeh clarified. “The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects.”

She also dismissed claims that the initiative was introduced for revenue generation, stressing that all payments for tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).
