50 shops at Kano market razed down by fire

A midnight fire has destroyed over 50 shops and property worth N150 million at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Speaking to newsmen, the chairman of the market, Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, explained that the blaze started at about 1am on Monday.

He pointed out that the conflagration destroyed over 50 shops containing plywood, foam, spray machine, chairs, and other carpentry tools.

The chairman said the cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained.

He, however, commended the Kano State Fire Service personnel for their prompt response

He called on the state government and philanthropists to support them, as many traders have lost their means of livelihood.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.

He, however, explained that about 25 shops were completely razed down by the inferno, while several other shops were also touched or partially affected by the fire.

“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said.
