Residents of Lagos have been urged to remain calm following the circulation of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, warning of a planned attack and abduction of schoolchildren by suspected bandits.
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday dismissed fears of an imminent attack, stating that there is currently no verified intelligence suggesting that any such threat exists within the state.
Reacting to growing concerns among parents and school authorities, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures around the affected area and other strategic locations across Lagos.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, police officers have been mobilised in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and ensure the safety of schools, communities, and critical infrastructure.
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to reassure residents that Lagos remains secure. Every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state,” the statement said.
The Command also warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by criminals or mischief-makers to create fear and panic among residents, stressing that anyone found engaging in activities capable of threatening public peace would face the full weight of the law.
Parents, guardians, and school managements have been encouraged to remain vigilant while continuing their normal activities without fear.
Police further appealed to residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements or activities in their neighbourhoods.
The Command reiterated that security remains a shared responsibility and urged members of the public to report any suspicious persons or objects through the nearest police station or the emergency lines provided by the Command.
Authorities maintained that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety and well-being of Lagos residents.
