The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration, proactive strategies and enhanced cyber capabilities to tackle the growing threats posed by cybercrime and emerging technologies.
In a goodwill message delivered at the 2nd Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy in Abuja, the IGP said the rapid advancement of technology has transformed security, economic activities and international relations, while also creating new opportunities for criminal networks to exploit digital platforms.
He noted that the Nigeria Police Force recognises the need for anticipatory policing, robust cyber capabilities and active digital diplomacy to effectively respond to evolving security challenges.
According to the IGP, the Force is committed to identifying emerging threats before they escalate, strengthening institutional resilience and building strategic partnerships with government agencies, the private sector and international partners.
Describing the seminar as a timely initiative, Disu said it offers an important platform for security and diplomatic stakeholders to deepen their understanding of emerging cyber threats, improve collaboration and align Nigeria’s cyber security efforts with global best practices.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting the country’s digital ecosystem through intelligence-led policing, capacity building, strategic partnerships and sustained public awareness campaigns.
He also stressed the importance of combating online fraud, cyber-enabled violence and other digital crimes, urging participants to convert the knowledge gained at the seminar into practical policies and collaborative initiatives that will strengthen Nigeria’s digital security architecture.
“I urge all participants to translate the insights from this seminar into concrete policies and collaborative initiatives that will make Nigeria’s digital space safer and more secure,” the IGP said.
He wished participants a productive and rewarding seminar and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to remain at the forefront of efforts to secure Nigeria’s cyberspace.
