Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled a suspected robbery operation in the Odogunyan area of Lagos, arresting two suspected armed robbers and recovering a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun loaded with three live cartridges.
The suspects were intercepted during a routine crime prevention patrol carried out by police officers in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
Police said the two men became suspicious after spotting the security team and attempted to flee while carrying a handbag. The operatives immediately gave chase, arrested them, and searched the bag.
The search led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges, confirming the officers’ suspicions.
The suspects were identified as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29. They are currently in police custody and are assisting detectives with ongoing investigations. They will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Commending the operatives and members of the local vigilante group, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, praised their vigilance, swift response and effective collaboration, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the firearm.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led policing and proactive patrols across Lagos State, warning criminals that there will be no hiding place for those who threaten the peace and security of residents.
He also urged members of the public to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities through the Command’s emergency lines, assuring residents of the Police’s unwavering commitment to keeping Lagos safe.
