Kidnappers holding the Chairman of Jezco Group, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, have reportedly increased their ransom demand from ₦700 million to ₦1.5 billion, as the family intensifies efforts to secure his safe release.
Ezeokafor was reportedly abducted in Anambra State while on his way to a prayer ground for his annual spiritual retreat. According to reports, the businessman left his residence in the early hours of the day without his security escorts when he was intercepted by the kidnappers.
The abductors initially demanded ₦700 million as ransom, a demand the family was reportedly prepared to negotiate in a bid to secure his freedom.
However, the kidnappers subsequently raised the demand to ₦1.5 billion and reportedly cut communication with the family, making efforts to establish contact with them unsuccessful.
The development has heightened anxiety among members of the businessman’s family, who are said to be deeply concerned about his safety and whereabouts.
As of Thursday, no official statement had been issued by the Anambra State Police Command confirming the abduction or providing details of efforts to rescue the businessman.
Ezeokafor is a prominent businessman from Anambra State and the Chairman of Jezco Group, a company with interests in the oil and lubricant sector. He is also known for his philanthropic activities and contributions to community development.
The family is reportedly appealing for the safe release of the businessman as security agencies continue efforts to address the growing threat of kidnapping in the state.
