Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the August 15 Osun State governorship election after polling 511,067 votes.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the governorship election held across the state on Saturday, securing a second term in office.
The State Returning Officer, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke winner at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The governor won 19 of the 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs.
Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo-Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ilesa West.
Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun, among others.
The Returning Officer announced that the election recorded 1,010,684 accredited voters, with 985,079 valid votes, 207 rejected votes and a total vote cast of 1,005,800.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
After the political parties’ agents signed the results, Ogunwole formally declared Adeleke the winner.
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected,” the Returning Officer said.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year term as governor of Osun State.
