The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Jacob Irewa, for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, ablaze following a domestic disagreement in Lokoja.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja.

According to the police, the disagreement reportedly started after the victim burnt some of her husband’s clothes which she believed he no longer used, without his permission.

The suspect allegedly threatened his wife, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and set her ablaze.

The victim survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital, Felele.

Following a report of the incident, operatives of the B Division Surveillance Team arrested Irewa.

The police said the suspect admitted during interrogation to setting his wife on fire. The command has commenced further investigation, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
