Lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Tony Dania, has commended the current leadership of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, describing it as a “New PSFU” and pledging his support for the Command.
Dania, who had a history with the Unit, recalled that worked very closely with the then Special Fraud Unit (SFU) to investigate and prosecute major oil subsidy fraud cases involving billions of naira.
He also recalled prosecuting a very big Oil Company before Hon. Justice Okon Abang, then of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, (now of the Court of Appeal), and he stated that the case was unceremoniously removed from the court and, right inside the court, I was asked to discontinue the prosecution of the Company and it’s Directors, that was shortly after the departure of the then CP PSFU, Mr. Tunde Ogunshakin Esq (now retired AIG).
Chief Dania commended the current Commissioner of Police of PSFU for her resilience in the ongoing investigation into the alleged Multi-Billion-US-Dollars fraud in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
“This is a new PSFU,” he said, stressing the importance of sustaining the high standard being set by the current CP and ensuring that major investigations are pursued professionally to their logical conclusion.
Dania pledged his support for the PSFU and urged stakeholders to allow the ongoing investigation to run its course, with due process and the rights of all parties respected.
