Abia State Government Remains Committed to Fostering Innovation and Industrial Growth – Dr Alex Otti

The Governor of Abia State Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has declared that his government is committed to fostering an environment where research, innovation and industrial growth can thrive.

The Governor who was ably represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, made this statement while speaking as a guest of honour in the 2nd Research/Innovation Fair Conference, 2025 organized by Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUA) with the theme “Leveraging Endogenous Technology for the Sustainability Development of the Nigerian Oil &Gas and Agro Allied industries.

His Excellency exposed that his administration has initiated policies that support small and medium enterprises, encourage private sector investments and promote science and technological education.

He commended the Vice Chancellor, the organizing committee and all stakeholders for organizing the important conference and assured them of his government’s unwavering support in the pursuit of any research-driven development.

In his words “Our administration will continue to collaborate with institutions like this university to ensure that research-based solutions drive our economic and social development”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe pointed out that the continuation of the lnnovation Fair Conference this year by his institution after it’s maiden edition last year 2024, is the demonstration of some of the efforts of his administration in reminding researchers of the real essence of the establishment of universities.

In his words “there is need to reawaken us to our responsibilities towards ensuring that our universities remain an academic centre for research and innovation”.

He hinged on the fact that sustainable economic development in the world is facing challenges posed by globalization and fierce competition hence the need for high skilled human resource which he noted can be achieved through creativity and innovation.

And noted further Research institutions are capable of producing knowledge, creativity and innovation represented by their researches if given the right platform.

Also speaking, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji represented by Dr. Peter Ogbobe, stated that Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOAUA), has continued to play a pivotal role in advancing research and technology particularly in Agricultural Science, and noted that it is a testament to the universities commitment to excellence, creativity and sustainable development.

He pointed out that oil and gas sector remains the bane of our economy and by integrating the use of technology innovation we can optimize the resource utilization, reduce dependence on foreign technology and promote inclusive economic prosperity.

The event which was graced by top Federal Government Officials, and Academics featured paper presentations and panel discussions.
