Arase, Ona Ekhomu to Receive Posthumous Honours at Gallant Officers Welfare, Recognition 2026

The late Inspector General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase and renowned security expert Ona Ekhomu will be honoured posthumously at the Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative 2026 in recognition of their exceptional contributions to policing, security, and national development.

The organizers, Naija Police & U , announced that the posthumous honours will be presented during the virtual event scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, under the theme, “Life After Police: Building Purpose, Welfare and Opportunities Beyond Service.”

According to the organisers, the awards are intended to celebrate the enduring legacies of the two distinguished Nigerians whose dedication and achievements left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s policing and security landscape.

The late Arase, who served as the 18th Inspector-General of Police, is being recognised for his visionary leadership, commitment to police reforms, and unwavering dedication to professionalism throughout his career.

Similarly, the late Ekhomu, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost security consultants and founder of Transworld Security Systems, is being honoured for his pioneering role in developing the private security industry and for promoting security awareness and professionalism across the country.

Speaking on the initiative, Project Coordinator, Mrs. Chioma Okezie, said the posthumous recognition is aimed at preserving the legacies of distinguished personalities whose lives and careers continue to inspire serving and retired security personnel.

She noted that honouring Arase and Ekhomu would serve as a reminder to younger generations of police officers and security practitioners of the enduring values of integrity, professionalism, selfless service, and commitment to national development.

“Their remarkable contributions to policing and security remain a source of inspiration. By celebrating their legacies, we hope to encourage today’s officers and future leaders to uphold the highest standards of service to the nation,” she said.

The event is expected to attract serving and retired police officers, security professionals, policymakers, and members of the public. It will also feature presentations on retirement planning, welfare, investment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and life after active service.

The organisers disclosed that Olatunji Rilwan Disu is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while retired Abiodun Alabi, Victoria Ekhomu, and Obinna AzoNobi are among the facilitators scheduled to speak at the programme.

The organisers reaffirmed that the Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative remains committed to celebrating excellence, promoting the welfare of police personnel, and creating opportunities that support officers beyond active service.

The Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative 2026 will hold virtually via Google Meet from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
