The Beku Onimoba Family of Igando, Lagos State, has denied reports alleging that it has reached a settlement agreement with the Oko-Osi and Oro-Otan families over the long-standing ownership dispute involving Igando land.

Speaking during a press briefing, members of the family described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that no agreement had been reached with either family regarding the disputed land.

According to the family, some members of the Oko-Osi and Oro-Otan families—who had previously challenged the Beku Onimoba Family’s claim to ownership of Igando land in both the Lagos State High Court and the Supreme Court—are now claiming that all disputes have been amicably resolved.

A member of the Beku Onimoba Family, Lawal Ige, dismissed the claim, warning that it could create tension within the Igando community.

“The Beku Onimoba Family has not entered into any settlement agreement with the Oko-Osi and Oro-Otan families over Igando land,” he said.

Ige further claimed that the Supreme Court, in Suit Nos. SC.171/75 and SC.378/2001, affirmed the family’s ownership of the entire Igando land, adding that the judgments remain valid and subsisting.

“We have not entered into any settlement agreement with the Oko-Osi and Oro-Otan families on the Igando land, and anyone dealing with them regarding the land is doing so at his or her own risk,” he stated.

The family also distanced itself from reports that one of its members had sought or accepted a traditional title from the Oro-Otan Family.

According to Ige, such an action was undertaken without the approval or consent of the Beku Onimoba Family and does not represent its position.

He further alleged that the use of the Beku Onimoba Family’s name on banners and flyers connected with the traditional title was unauthorized and disclosed that the family would seek legal redress over the matter.

The family appealed to residents of Igando and the general public not to be misled by what it described as false claims of a settlement, insisting that its position on the ownership of the land remains unchanged.
