President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound grief over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the families of the fallen soldiers, urging them to remain steadfast despite the painful loss.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple casualties.
President Tinubu commended the bravery and resilience of the troops, noting that they fought courageously to repel the attackers and prevent Boko Haram insurgents from overrunning nearby communities.
While mourning the fallen heroes, the President encouraged the Armed Forces and frontline personnel not to lose morale but to draw strength from the nation’s appreciation of their sacrifices.
According to him, ongoing coordinated land and air operations by Nigerian forces have significantly weakened insurgent groups, describing the recent attack as a desperate attempt by terrorists to regain momentum.
The President paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah , who died in the line of duty, emphasizing that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the military through improved welfare and the provision of necessary equipment to prosecute the fight against terrorism effectively.
President Tinubu also called on Nigerians and the media to rally behind the Armed Forces, urging them not to glorify or condone attacks against military personnel.
He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, assuring them of continued collaboration with the Federal Government to restore lasting peace and security in the state.
