Lagos Police Command has arrested one Nwagu Emmanuel, who has been defrauding and deceiving suspected victims by pretending to be a serving Commissioner of Police.
His act was uncovered when he dared to enter one of the police stations in Lagos, demanding the release of a notorious armed robber.
Briefing newsmen on his arrest, the command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that
On September 2, 2023, at about 4 p.m., one Nwagu Emmanuel ‘m’ visited a police premises and introduced himself as a Commissioner of Police. “He was fully regarded as such, but upon questioning, he was discovered to be an impersonator. A search was conducted at his abode, and a Deputy Commissioner of Police warrant card, an Assistant Commissioner of Police warrant card, a Kenwood walkie-talkie, a police camouflage singlet, and a face cap were recovered.”
According to SP Hundeyin, Nwagu is among 13 suspects who have allegedly engaged in varying crimes, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of controlled substances, impersonation, etc.
“From all these cases that we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of four (4) firearms, two (2) live cartridges, one (1) expended cartridge, eleven (11) live rounds of ammunition, one (1) vehicle, two (2) wristwatches, six (6) phones, some quantity of weed suspected to be a variant of drugs, a walkie-talkie, a police warrant card, and a police camouflage cap with a singlet.”
