FCT Councillor Escapes After His Abductors Slept Off

Usman Tanko, the kidnapped former council member who represented Tungan-Maje Ward in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, has escaped after his captors fell asleep in their hiding place.

According to Daily Trust, Tanko was taken from his home in Shanagu village, Zuba Chiefdom, in the early hours of last Tuesday. A few hours later, his kidnappers called Tanko’s family and wanted a N15 million ransom, according to the story.

A family member who wished to remain anonymous confirmed Tanko’s escape, saying it occurred on Saturday night while his captors were dozing off after drinking wine and smoking hemp.

“As God would have it, his captors fell asleep, and he untied himself and escaped,” he claimed.

Tanko escaped along with a businesswoman earlier abducted from Tungan-Ladan community in Zuba Chiefdom penultimate Friday.

The woman, who was said to have been with the kidnappers for close to two weeks before her escape, reportedly paid them N2m, but that they refused to free her over a balance of N500,000 and recharges card worth N100,000.

There was no response from the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, on the development.
