The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Sanusi, has disclosed that he personally led a joint security team that rescued kidnapped victims from the Byazhin forest area of Abuja after spending four days tracking suspected kidnappers.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels Television, the police commissioner said the operation was intelligence-driven and targeted a criminal group believed to be operating within the forest.

According to CP Sanusi, on June 9, 2026, the security team encountered the kidnappers while they were holding their victims captive. During the ensuing operation, two suspected kidnappers were killed, two others were arrested, while several members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

The commissioner stated that all the kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with safety.

He further revealed that members of the joint security team celebrated the successful operation within the forest by slaughtering a ram and holding a small party.

“We got credible intelligence and acted on it. We came here and waited for them. Luck ran against them. Some escaped with bullet wounds and the victims were liberated. We neutralized two and caught two,” Sanusi said.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes within the Federal Capital Territory and its surrounding communities.
