Abia State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer of Agape Evangelical Ministries (City of Miracles), Aba, Bishop Timothy Otu, after his alleged lover, Happiness Echezie, was found dead in the room they lodged at Jubilee Guest House in Aba.
The deceased, who is a mother of five and an evangelist in his church, reportedly lodged in the hotel on Saturday, August 12, 2003.
According to the manager of the hotel who reported the matter at the police station, at about 11 p.m. the same day, Bishop Otu left the hotel with the excuse that he wanted to buy food.
When he did not return and there was no sign that anyone was still in that room, the manager alerted the police the next day for fear that something might have gone wrong.
The operatives from Ngwa police station, where the matter was reported, got to the hotel, opened the room, and found evangelist Happiness naked with foam gushing out of her mouth and nose.
No one knew the identity of the bishop, as the details given when securing the room had no address. Luckily, when the deceased’s phone was opened, love-related text messages between her and Bishop confirmed that he was the one with whom she lodged in the hotel.
Police operatives were able to trace him to his church on Sunday and arrest him.
