Suspected herdsmen have ambushed and killed about nine Force Intelligence Response Team(IRT) operatives who were deployed into a forest in Delta to rescue about four kidnapping victims.
According to reliable sources in Delta State Police Command, the deceased officers and several others were deployed into a forest at Bentsiga Buplesi community in Ugheli area on Monday when they ran into an ambush. “There were more than nine that went for that rescue operation on Monday, and only nine bodies were recovered on Tuesday. One of the officers who ran out with bullet wounds said that, “the herdsmen were so many and heavily armed. They shot and killed many of us.
“We are praying for the safe return of the others.”
