Auwal Abdulwahab, a 20-year-old groom, along with three of his friends, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly coercing his bride into non-consensual sexual activity.

According to the police spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at around 10 PM in Tungo village, Albasu District, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.

Shiisu stated that the groom is suspected of orchestrating the sexual assault against his wife just days after their wedding. He and his friends, Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, are accused of entering the couple’s matrimonial home and forcing the bride into non-consensual sexual activity, which ultimately led to her death.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the bride had reportedly disagreed with her husband regarding marital relations before their wedding.

Upon receiving the report, police officers quickly responded to the scene, where they found the bride’s body. The remains were transported to Gumel General Hospital for a medical examination, where the attending doctor confirmed her death.

The body was subsequently released to her parents for burial, while the four suspects have been taken into custody for further investigation.
