In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson, identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu (also known as Chebe), 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz (also known as Wawo), 21.

The trio was nabbed during a sting operation that ran from 10pm on Saturday to 4am on Sunday.

Kiyawa said investigations unravelled that Auwalu, a nephew of the deceased woman, was the ring leader and confessed to the crime.

The spokesperson said Auwalu admitted that the group had carried out previous killings, including the murder and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano.

Kiyawa said recovered items include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club (known locally as gora), some cash, and other dangerous weapons.

The police command commended its operatives for the swift response and thanked the public for their cooperation and support, assuring residents of continued efforts to deliver justice and sustain peace in the state, as investigations continue.
