A police inspector, Ogunyemi Olarenwaju, who traveled to Umuahia in Abia State for an event, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the state.
According to reliable police sources in Ekiti Police Command where he was serving, the news of his disappearance was made known by his elder brother, who alerted the police when he realized that the inspector had been abducted. “It was his brother, one Ogunyemi Ebenezer Kayode, who reported at Ilupeju Ekiti that on the 30th of June, at about 7 p.m., his younger brother, who is a police officer, one Inspector Ogunyemi Olarenwaju attached to Ilupeju Ekiti Dovision, traveled with his personal vehicle alongside one Idowu and one Stephen, both of Ilupeju Ekiti.
“ They had traveled to Umuahia in Africa for an event. He even alerted the brother around 7 p.m. that he had arrived and was eating at a canteen.
Unfortunately, around 10 p.m. the same day he received shocking news that his brother, the inspector, and two others who traveled with him had been kidnapped by suspected IPOB members.
Hours later, the family received a short video clip sent by the kidnappers showing how they tied them up with a rope and demanding their names and occupation. Inspector Ogunyemi was seen telling the kidnappers that he is a policeman, and the kidnappers demanded for N10 million each for their release. The family negotiated, and they agreed to accept three million for the three. The first payment of two million was paid into a first bank account belonging to one Udengba Chizoh. They ended up paying a total of N3.25 million. Immediately after the money was paid, the kidnappers cut off all forms of communication with the family,” the source narrated.
