Human capital development:Otti set to provide citizens with skills, opportunity

Abia Human Capital Development had its first inaugural workshop in Abia State at the international conference center, Umuahia, on October 31, 2024.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, who was ably represented by his Deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, stated in his opening address at the inaugural workshop that the Abia State Human Capital Development program focuses on providing citizens with the necessary skills and opportunities for success in a competitive world.

In his words, “This workshop has been organized to unite stakeholders from education, entrepreneurship, and health to cooperate on solutions tailored to the specific needs of Abia’s workforce and its youth.”.

“The program aims to align the workforce’s capabilities with modern economic demands, ensuring that all Abians are equipped to excel, innovate, and contribute positively to society.”.

Otti, while revealing that Abia State is among the selected states benefiting from the federal government-supported human development program among other 13 states across the federation, encouraged participants to make most of the opportunity by engaging fully and contributing to our collective vision.

“Let us seize this moment to empower, uplift, and inspire the society.”.

Speaking during her presentation, the Chairman Civil Service Commission and State Focal Person, Human Capital Development, Pst Eno Jerry Eze (PHD), noted that human capital development is about the people.

She pointed out that Abia State is so blessed to have his Excellency Gov. Alex Otti as Governor, whom she noted had given so much to improve governance in Abia State, and in recognition of Alex Otti’s investment in good governance, Abia was selected as one of the states that benefited from the Federal Government Human Development Programme among 13 states.

She further pointed out that human development is not just a goal; it is a pathway to a sustainable and thriving society.
In other words, “the focus of human capital development is in developing skills, knowledge, and abilities of individuals to improve their productivity and quality of life.”
“In abia it about investing in our most valuable resource, the people.”
In addition, she added that
Globally, the thematic areas that will be covered in the human capital development are education, health and nutrition, and labor force participation.

Earlier, while giving a goodwill message, one of the participants, Chairman of the Commission for the Welfare of People with Disabilities, Mr. David Obioma
Anyaele, who was represented by Mr. Stanley Onyebuchi, appreciated the government for running an inclusive government. He pointed out that the governor has sponsored and encouraged their activities and also included people with disabilities in governance.

He encouraged every thematic area and group involved in the human capital development program to involve people with disabilities in their activity.

Highlights of the program included breakout sessions with technical working groups in order to extract HCD plans using the 2024/2025 budget.
