A lawyer and human rights activist, Abdullai Tony Dania, has indicated interest in leading the prosecuting counsel that will ensure that Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti is convicted of assaulting a policeman. This act, he stated, will be free of charge.
Kuti was charged with assaulting a police officer. He allegedly committed the offense on May 13 on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. The police charged him with slapping an inspector after he drove dangerously on the bridge and deliberately blocked a moving police vehicle.
On why he chooses to represent the police, Dania stated that he wants to ensure that he is convicted. He stated: “He will definitely be convicted and will be jailed for at least three years. I am not happy with the way Seun openly assaulted a Nigerian police officer in uniform with such arrogant impunity.
“There are so many honest and hardworking policemen out there risking their lives to keep the country relatively safe. I must also commend the current leadership of the police, who have not spared their personnel who misbehaved.”
