Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has described the allegations suggesting he is responsible for the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson as an attempt by his political opponents to tarnish his reputation.
Governor Diri who spoke through His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, expressed shock and disappointment over the wicked rumours and wondered why such falsehoods were being peddled on the day his administration marked its 5th anniversary.
He therefore dismissed them as baseless fabrications that was intended by his political enemies to distract his administration and assured that he will not succumb to their antics.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor,” the statement noted.
Recall, the rumours gained traction after a popular blogging platform alleged that Governor Diri was involved in the ex-BBN star’s pregnancy.
However, Nengi has publicly debunked the speculation on her social media account.
Taking to X on February 11, 2025, Nengi ended the speculations linking her pregnancy to the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri. Nengi expressed her frustration with the persistent rumours, emphasising that the speculations not only affect her but also involve individuals she deeply respects.
She wrote, “As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits so let me be clear: I’m not pregnant for any governor.”
The reality TV star stressed her refusal to allow her pregnancy to be sullied with false reports and made ugly.
