The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has assured residents of enhanced police operations in response to the recent outcry over the alleged increase in crime incidents across the state.
He gave this assurance today, Thursday, during an emergency strategic meeting with select senior officers and heads of tactical units in the command.
In his words, CP Owohunwa said, “Of late, we have noticed some concerns from citizens about the fear of crime, especially issues dealing with concerns around traffic robbery and some elements of police misconduct. I found those as a call to duty and the need for us to renew the tactical, what the actual situation is, and areas we need to review our strategies.
“I want to assure Lagosians that we have the capacity to protect them and keep the internal security within Lagos.
“The approach is for each area commander to give me a brief, and in the areas that have been identified where these developments are prevalent, we are trying to put together our professional experiences in order to support them in terms of strategies we apply and in terms of asset mobilization and deployment. Occasional assets will be deployed, and logistics
“The reality of the statistics that we have as of now does not show that the situation is as bad, but then our mandate is clear, so even if we are talking of one or two cases, we as security agencies should be concerned that with the outcome of today’s strategic meeting, Lagosians are going to witness an enhanced police response to their general public outcry, and at the end of it they will be reassured that their confidence in the Lagos police to protect them will be further reinforced.”
