A man on Monday morning climbed a broadcast mast on Katampe Hill in Abuja, from where he threatened to drop to his death if the federal government fails to revert its policy on subsidy removal and address the current hardship in the country.

The man, identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yusuf, from Maiduguri, Borno State, dropped a note demanding an end to the issue of insecurity in parts of the North East and the North West.
Making his nine-point demand from the government, the man said, “On behalf of fellow Nigerians, I demand the following: government should return fuel subsidy, government should declare state of emergency in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger and Borno on insecurity matters and take immediate action to clear those terrorism (sic) in the above listed states and the country at large.

“Government should open borders for food impartation in order to eradicate food shortage in the country, and the government should immediately respond to the problem of out-of-school children which is increasing rapidly.

‘’These are the major Nigerian (sic) problems and I’m ready to sacrifice my life for the solutions to them. I’m calling for (sic) fellow Nigerians to join me in this riot.”

The acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, who was at the scene, persuaded him to come down from the mast, which he eventually did, and was taken to the DGs office from where the police reportedly took custody of him.

In a statement yesterday, spokesperson of the FCT police command. Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect is presently in police custody and in a stable condition.
