Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued four kidnapped children believed to be victims of a child trafficking syndicate after a dramatic late-night operation at Alafia Bus Terminal in the Coker-Orile area of Lagos.
The rescue, which occurred at about 11:40 p.m. on May 8, 2026, was carried out by Police officers on routine patrol who became suspicious after spotting four children in the company of an unidentified woman attempting to board a luxury bus heading out of Lagos State.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the woman fled immediately after noticing the approaching patrol team, abandoning the children at the terminal before disappearing into the night.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had earlier been kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area of Lagos and were allegedly being transported out of the state before the swift intervention of the Police disrupted the operation.
The children were immediately taken into protective custody as officers launched efforts to identify and contact their families. Authorities confirmed that all four children have now been safely reunited with their parents.
Reacting to the development, CP Tijani Fatai commended the vigilance and professionalism of the patrol officers whose prompt response led to the successful rescue.
The Commissioner also reassured residents that the Command remains committed to combating crimes against children and protecting vulnerable persons across the state.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and uncover possible accomplices linked to the attempted trafficking operation.
Residents, particularly parents and guardians, have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest Police station or security agency.
