Nwogu applauds Anyaehie for accreditation of medical schools

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chidi Nwogu, has commended the resolute efforts of Prof. Bond ANYAEHIE, Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in working assiduously towards facilitating the accreditation of the Federal University of Technology Owerri Medical School by the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

The achievement came to fruition through the unwavering belief in the capacity of Prof. Bond Anyaehie by the governor of Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma, who insisted on inviting and incorporating Prof. Anyaehie in the facilitation team as Team Head.

The MDCN delegation led by its Register, Dr. Nwakanma, Head Medical Education Unit, was so impressed by the leadership role of the pioneer provost, Prof. Bond Anyaehie.
The team was furthermore visibly thrilled and remarkably impressed with the facilities on the ground at the FUTO Teaching Hospital at FMC Owerri, as well as the giant strides of its Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Kingsley Achigbu.

In her own remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FUTO, Prof. Nnenna Oti, who was visibly elated, showered bountiful praise and appreciation to God Almighty for all the notable achievements recorded under her tenure as the Vice Chancellor of FUTO, of which this particular fit is one of those that stands out.
According to her, the journey to this successful accreditation has been quite challenging but eventually capped with the value added to it by the final push of Prof. Anyaehie, which finally saw the university through.
According to her, the major positive implication of this praiseworthy development is a 100% increase in the admission quota of the medical school from 50 to 100.

The accreditation project has been very long as they were made to diligently scale through the following stages:

✓NUC Resources Verification.
✓Presidential Approval of Upgrade of FMC to Teaching Hospital.
✓Pre-accrediration visit by MDCN.
✓Full accreditation visit by MDCN.

The Vice Chancellor finally extended her gratitude to:
(1) His Excellency, the Imo state governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma.
(2) Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors in the Health and Education ministries.
(3) Sen. Jack Tilley Gyado (OFR, CON), Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the 12th and 13th Governing Council (His leadership and guidance saw through the approval of the teaching hospital by Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu).
(4) FUTO-CMD, Dr Kingsley Achigbu.
(5) Ag Provost,Prof Bond Anyaehie.
(6) Mr. Chidi Nkwopara and PMF EXCO.
(7) Hon. Chidi Nwogu, former member of the House of Representatives.

With this accreditation, FUTO College of Medicine will now be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, as the former FMC will now be legally addressed as a teaching hospital.
This fact was affirmed by Prof. Anyaehie himself.
