The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, and the Spiritual Director of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, have emphasised the need for stronger relations between the police and communities to enhance peace and security.

The call followed Odumeje’s visit to the commissioner in Awka on Wednesday.

Ama said sustained engagement with religious leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders was essential to building public trust, improving intelligence sharing and promoting peaceful coexistence across the state.

“Effective policing depends on public cooperation, mutual trust and strong partnerships between the police and the communities they serve,” he said.

The commissioner noted that religious leaders could play significant roles in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, promoting responsible conduct and encouraging respect for the rule of law.

He assured Odumeje that the command remained open to constructive partnerships with religious organisations and community-based institutions, adding that it would continue to uphold professionalism, accountability and people-oriented policing.

Ama also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to help prevent crime, identify security threats and enable the police to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

He stressed that effective security required more than law enforcement, noting that dialogue, stakeholder collaboration and proactive public engagement were crucial to addressing community concerns and building a safer Anambra State.
