Enugu State Police Command has busted a child trafficking syndicate and arrested two female suspects identified as Miracle Orji and Blessing Ani. Their arrest led to the rescue of two children: Ogechi Eneh (a female) aged 4 and Destiny Okechukwu (a male) aged 1 year.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on March 24, 2023, Miracle Orji stole little Ogechi while she was playing and was about to escape when she was sighted by some citizens at Ameke-Oduma Community in Aninri Local Government Area.
She was arrested and handed over to the police.
In the course of interrogation, she led operatives to arrest Blessing Ani around the Shoprite Mall in Enugu. She was alleged to be waiting to pick up their latest victim, Miracle.
At the police station,
Blessing Ani confessed to having been involved in the act of child trafficking since 2017 and led the operatives to Abuja, where the male victim, Destiny Okechukwu, who had been sold with fake documents and renamed Chibuike, was rescued.
“Meanwhile, frantic investigative efforts are on course to arrest other members of the syndicate, while the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigation into the case is concluded,” DSP Ndukwe stated.
