The ongoing six-month induction programme for a group of reinstated senior police officers has been temporarily suspended following an interim order of the National Industrial Court in Abuja.
According to sources at the Police National Headquarters, Abuja, the development was communicated to the Police Staff College, Jos, through a police wireless message directing compliance with the court order.
The sources said all participants in the ongoing induction programme have been directed to vacate the premises with their personal effects, pending further developments in the case.
The directive followed an interim order of the National Industrial Court in Suit No. NICN/KN/51/2026, instituted by Advocacy for Human Rights and Cultural Values for Development Initiatives against the Inspector-General of Police and five others.
The fresh legal action is connected with the controversy surrounding the retirement and subsequent reinstatement of senior police officers, including officers from Cadet ASP Courses 18, 19 and 20.
The affected officers had earlier challenged their retirement from the Nigeria Police Force, leading to a judgment of the National Industrial Court directing their reinstatement.
The decision was subsequently challenged at the Court of Appeal. The appellate court later affirmed the earlier judgment, paving the way for steps towards the reinstatement of the affected officers.
As part of the reinstatement process, the officers were enrolled in a six-month induction programme at the Police Staff College, Jos.
The latest suit, however, has introduced a fresh legal challenge to the process, with questions raised over the application of statutory provisions governing retirement, length of service and the status of some of the affected officers.
The National Industrial Court has consequently ordered that the existing position be maintained pending further consideration of the matter.
The latest order is interim and does not constitute a final determination of the substantive suit.
The case is expected to come up for further proceedings on September 30, 2026, when the court will consider the parties’ respective positions on the application before it.
Meanwhile, the police directive has effectively placed the induction programme on hold, pending further judicial developments.
