The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria.

The declaration follows the non-sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan across the country.

In a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council said it did not receive any confirmed report of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent from any part of Nigeria on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, making Friday, March 20, the first day of Shawwal 1447AH.

The Sultan urged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Nigeria as they mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
