At least three policemen were allegdly killed and several other security others injured as Police and men of the Nigerian Army engage in a fierce gun battle in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.
According to the spokesperson of the Taraba State Command of the Nigerian police Abdullahi Usman the soldiers who came ready for battle broke into the police headquarters in Jalingo and started shooting sporadically.
“At about 8am there was a misunderstanding between the police and army operatives on election duty at INEC headquarters in Jalingo. In the process the men of 6 brigade headquarters in Jalingo armed with three Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) broke down police headquarters gate and open fire.
One ASP Robert Magra was shot on the stomach and Inspector Samaila Dimas was shot at the leg while they took his AK47 rifle. On their way out the soldiers also shot at one Inspector Joshua Gwaza at Kasuwan Yelwa area,” he stated in a sitrep sighted by our correspondent.
Other source claimed that the crisis started when a soldier asked a policewoman to identify herself and some misunderstanding ensued that quickly escalated into a gun battle.
