The Oyo State Police Command has refuted social media reports alleging a violent clash between farmers and herders in Ilowa-Gbade Village, Atiba Local Government Area. The Command described the claims as misleading and exaggerated, urging the public to desist from spreading false information that could incite fear and disrupt public peace.

In an official statement released today, the police clarified that the incident in question was a personal dispute between a 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu, over grazing rights. The altercation, which occurred on March 21, escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving Isiaka with a severe head injury and Tiamiyu with significant wounds, including the loss of two fingers.

Both individuals are currently receiving medical attention while investigations continue at the Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku.

Reaffirming their commitment to public safety, the Oyo State Police urged residents to verify information before sharing it, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and order. Citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency response lines: 615 (Toll-Free), 08081768614, 09054133071, and 09061299291.

The police assured the public that they remain dedicated to ensuring the security of all residents and called for collective efforts in maintaining a safe and stable environment.
