An 80-year-old man in Abia State has served his 70-year-old wife divorce papers, accusing her of trying to poison him five years ago.

Human rights activist, Ochiegbu Marvelous, who intervened in the matter, disclosed that the elderly man not only filed for divorce through a high court but also had his wife arrested based on the poisoning allegation.

Ochiegbu further revealed that the man, in a bid to “deal with” his wife, sold off 20 plots of land and went as far as naming their first son, who is in his 40s, as a kidnapper in the legal petition after the son challenged his actions.

The activist described the case as disturbing and hinted that external influences might be fueling the dispute.

He commended the professionalism of officers at the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), who he said ensured the wife was released and treated fairly.

“Accusing someone with no questionable character of being a kidnapper is just too much,” Ochiegbu said, calling the man’s actions both extreme and unfortunate
