Lagos Police Nab 26 Rapists, Armed Robbers

Operatives of the Lagos State Command have arrested 27 persons, who were allegedly involved in various crimes in the last two weeks.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced this to newsmen on Monday at the Command’s headquarters, Ikeja.
Hundeyin said that the suspects were allegedly involved in crimes, including murder, defilement, kidnapping, armed robbery, vandalism, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
“From these cases, we recovered a total of two firearms, seven ammunition, one vehicle, one tricycle, two battle axes, three cutlasses, charms and other contraband,” he said.
Explaining details of the crimes, Hundeyin said that on April 27, 2025 at about 9.00 p.m., detectives of the command received a report from a 15-year-old female survivor, that on same day at about 8.00 p.m., one Kalid invited her from Orile to Yusuf Esan area of Amukoko.
According to the girl’s reports, she met Kalid and seven others men, who forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
“Based on the report, a team of police detectives was immediately mobilized to the scene, where three of the suspects – Awali Alabi, 20, Saliu Anafi, 18 and Basit Nurudeen, 16, were arrested while others escaped.

“The survivor has been taken to General Hospital, Suru-Alaba, Amukoko for examination and treatment.
“Meanwhile, the suspects are currently assisting the police with useful information towards arresting other fleeing suspects involved. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
Hundeyin said that the operatives, on April 27, 2025, at about 1.30 p.m., received a distress call that one Quadri, 25, was attacked by two suspected cultists armed with dangerous weapons at Alagbado area.
He said that a team of operatives immediately mobilized to the scene, where the suspects identified as Riliwan Afuape, 26 and Bamidele Ayobami, 29, were arrested and detained.
The spokesperson said that the victim was rescued with a machete cut on his right hand and rushed to General Hospital, Ile-Epo for treatment.
Hundeyin said that preliminary enquiry revealed that the victim was attacked as a result of his refusal to join the suspects’ cult group.
The image maker said that a murder case was reported on April 28, 2025 at about 7.00 a.m., where operatives received a distress call that two suspected armed robbers caught by an angry mob were being beaten and about to be lynched at Suru Alaba Community, Ajegunle.
Hundeyin explained that based on the report, operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene where the suspects – Azeez Anafi, 25, alias “stainless” and Damilare Brown, 25, were rescued and taken into police custody.
“A locally made pistol with one expended cartridge and a suspected stolen tricycle, were recovered at the scene.
“However, preliminary enquiry revealed that the suspects and their cohorts now at large, fired at a rider named Abubakar, 35, while they were attempting to dispossess him of his motorcycle at the aforementioned community and he died on the spot.
“The corpse has been evacuated and deposited at a public morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, the suspects have been properly detained in police custody and exhibits have been registered accordingly.
“Effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the group. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
Hundeyin further explained that some eight suspected cultists were arrested on April 29, 2025, through a credible intelligence.He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in several cases of cult related killings within Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Sabo and its environs.
“Upon searching the suspects, one Berretta pistol with four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, one unexpended cartridge, two battle axes and two cutlasses were recovered from them.
“The suspects are assisting the police in its investigations,” he said.
The image maker said that one 48-year-old man, Peter Onyeri, was allegedly arrested on April 29 at about 9.39 p.m., at Amukoko area, for having carnal knowledge of a physically challenged 16-year-old girl.Tl
The father of the girl, who reported the case to the police, said that on several occasions, at about 8.30 p.m. of same date, the suspect was caught indecently assaulting the survivor in his house at the aforementioned area.
“Based on the report, a team of visited the scene of crime, where the suspect was arrested, while the survivor has been taken to General Hospital, Ajeromi for examination and treatment,” he said.
Hundeyin said all suspects were to be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
He assured all residents and visitors to Lagos State that under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, crime and criminality would be brought to a minimum.

Hundeyin assured that they will continue to ensure optimal management and deployment of human and operational resources across the entire State.
“We implore Lagosians not to hesitate to contact the police if they see any suspicious activities around them,” he said.
