The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers in a major move aimed at strengthening the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotions were ratified during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its headquarters in Abuja.
The exercise saw 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), while 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The Commission also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and elevated 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
In addition, the PSC confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
According to the Commission, the promotions followed the successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews by the affected officers as part of its merit-based promotion process.
Among the officers promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police are CP Itam Nnaghe Obono, CP Bassey Samuel Ewah, CP Osagie John Agans-Irabor, CP Monday Agbonika, CP Iyamah Daniel Adebor, CP Isa Danladi Nda, CP Akaninyene Ezima, CP Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, CP Afegbua B. Rashid, CP Edozie Hycenth Azuka, CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya, CP Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, and CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.
The newly promoted Commissioners of Police include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo, and Zainab A. Pembi.
Speaking after the promotions were approved, PSC Chairman and retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary conduct and professional service.
He warned the newly promoted officers against abuse of office, particularly in the handling of civil disputes, and advised them to stay away from land-related matters capable of damaging their reputations and careers.
Argungu emphasized that promotion comes with greater responsibility and accountability, urging the officers to uphold transparency, fairness, and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you. Be truthful, transparent and accountable in your new responsibilities. There is life after retirement,” he said.
A statement issued by the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Ani, said the promotions are expected to fill critical leadership positions across police commands, formations, and departments nationwide.
The Commission noted that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen command structures, and improve service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.
