Family, friends, colleagues and associates of late security expert, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, on Sunday gathered in Lagos to mark his fifth memorial service and celebrate his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s security sector and humanity.

The service, held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, featured prayers and tributes in honour of the late security icon.

In his sermon, Ven. Bolajoko Osinupebi, who preached from Ephesians 4:1, urged Christians to demonstrate godly conduct, noting that their attitudes could either draw people closer to God or drive them away.

At a reception held at the Ekhomu family residence in Ajah, speakers described the late security professional as an intelligent, compassionate and dedicated practitioner who mentored many and contributed significantly to the growth of private security in Nigeria.

Chief (Dr.) Ezekiel Ainabe described Ekhomu as “a wonderful man” who excelled in various aspects of life, while former DSS Assistant Director, Prince Matthew Ahianba, recalled his passion for advancing security practice in Nigeria.

A longtime friend, Dr. Phil Ofulue, described Ekhomu as an astute professional whose influence extended nationally and internationally. Buduka J. Addey of PSKorner also remembered him as a pioneer, teacher and mentor who helped shape her career in the security industry.

A major highlight of the memorial was the presentation of a posthumous Award of Excellence to Ekhomu by NAIJA POLICE & U in recognition of his contributions to security and humanity. The award was presented by Dr. Ainabe and received by his widow, Chief (Mrs.) Victoria Ekhomu, and her children.

Responding to the recognition, members of the Ekhomu family and friends pledged cash donations in support of the activities and welfare initiatives of NAIJA POLICE & U, further underscoring the family’s appreciation for the organisation’s efforts to honour the legacy of the late security icon.

The event ended with tributes to Ekhomu and reflections on a legacy that continues to inspire security professionals, colleagues, friends and those he mentored.
