The commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu said this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting at Government House, Umuahia. He said that government has been doing a lot in the area of security , adding that the new initiative is aimed at cubbing insecurity in the State.
Kanu also disclosed that Lighting- up Abia Initiative is billed to roll off the ground in the next few weeks and would involve the lighten up of major streets in Aba, Umuahia and other parts of the State with solar powered-street lights.
The Information Commissioner added that there would be a summit to focus on oil and gas in October this year even as he said that a lot of attention is being focused in the State by investors.
Speaking on the “Reclaim Our Schools Initiative “of the present administration, the comtmissioner for Education , Professor Uche Eme Uche described the effort as a community-based initiative whereby government would reconstruct and handover selected public primary and secondary schools to communities for protection.
The Commissioner said the venture would involve stakeholders in the education sector including financial organizations and individuals. She restated government’s commitment to reclaim all public school lands taken over by individuals in the past.
