Deputy Commissioner of Police allegedly commits suicide in Oyo

A Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gbolahan Olúgbemi, has reportedly committed suicide. He was found dead on Monday in his apartment on Petros Academy Street in the Federal Lowcost area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The late DCP, who was an aide de camp of the late Adebayo Alao Akala, a former governor of Oyo State, was said to have returned home for Easter when he allegedly killed himself.

He was the DCP in charge of the special investigation in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State, before the unfortunate incident.
When reporters visited his house at Petros Academy Street, the police had cordoned off the area, but sympathisers were still seen in groups discussing the matter.

A United Nations medalist in Law Enforcement and Administration, Olugbemi had served as the ADC to the late Oyo State Governor, Alao Akala. He was DPO at Ilupeju, Area Commander at Ajah in Lagos, and he had served as Personal Assistant to two Lagos State Commissioners of Police, the late CP Young Arebamen and the late DIG Israel Ajao.

Olugbemi, who had received training in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Operations, had received several awards in Nigeria and abroad, and he had been celebrated in the media for several good deeds in the course of his career.

Olugbemi was a graduate of the University of Lagos and the Olabisi Onabanjo University (Philosophy, 1995).
