A fresh scandal is brewing as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has declared Abdullahi Bashir Haske; son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale called on Nigerians to assist in tracking down Haske, who has reportedly gone underground.

The statement read; “The public is hereby notified that Abdullahi Bashir Haske, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the EFCC in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.”

Haske, 38, is said to have last resided at two upscale addresses in Lagos: No. 6 Mosley Road, Ikoyi, and 952/953 Idejo Street, Victoria Island. However, investigators say he’s no longer traceable at either location, raising speculation that he may have fled the country or gone into hiding.

The EFCC has appealed to the public to provide any useful information about Haske’s whereabouts through its nationwide offices or official tip lines. Offices in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, and other major cities have been placed on high alert.

While EFCC officials have remained tight-lipped about the details of the allegations, the development is already stirring political tension.

Bashir Haske’s ties to Atiku Abubakar, a key opposition figure and former presidential candidate, are likely to fuel fresh debates around politically exposed persons and anti-corruption battles in Nigeria.

Sources familiar with the investigation suggest that Haske’s case could be part of a broader probe involving high-level financial networks linked to past administrations. However, no official confirmation has been made.

As the manhunt continues, one thing is clear: this story is far from over.
