The enforcement is anchored on the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, CAP M21, LFN 2004, which empowers the Police to regulate the use of tinted glass for security reasons. It is not a new law—it is an existing one being implemented.
2. Has there been any new directive from the IGP or is this an existing law?

This is an existing law, but the IGP has directed Commands nationwide to ensure strict enforcement in the interest of public safety.
3. Is there any court order stopping the enforcement?
👉 Answer:
No. Only a valid court order can stop the enforcement of an existing law. As at today, there is no such order.
4. How can motorists apply for the Tinted Glass Permit?
👉 Answer:
Very simple—visit www.possap.gov.ng, create an account, fill in your vehicle details, upload the required documents, make payment, and await approval. The process is transparent and online.
5. What documents are required and what is the cost?

Applicants will need:
Proof of ownership
National ID or BVN
Reason for tint (medical/security if applicable)
The official fee is clearly stated on the portal—no hidden charges.
6. How long does approval take?

The system is automated. Once your documents are in order, approval is usually processed within a few working days.
7. What about motorists who already applied but are still waiting for approval?
👉 Answer:
Those applicants should keep their remitta slip as evidence. They will not be penalized while their applications are under processing.
9. How will factory-fitted tints be treated compared to aftermarket tints?
👉 Answer:
Factory-fitted tints still require permits, but they are easier to process since they come standard from manufacturers. Aftermarket tints require justification (medical or security reasons) supported by documentation.
10. What happens to defaulters?

Defaulters risk arrest, prosecution, fines, and possible vehicle impoundment until they comply with the law.
11. Is there room for on-the-spot compromise? (corruption concerns)

Absolutely not. The process is cashless, online, and monitored. Any officer caught engaging in extortion will face disciplinary action.
12. What if the portal is slow or not working?

The system is being constantly upgraded. Motorists are advised to be patient and retry. They can also use alternative devices/networks. The Command ICT desk is available to assist.
13. How will this enforcement affect ordinary motorists?

Law-abiding motorists with clear glass or valid permits have nothing to fear. The enforcement is targeted at misuse of tints for criminal concealment.
14. What measures are in place to prevent harassment?

Officers have been sensitized and warned against intimidation or abuse. Citizens are encouraged to report misconduct immediately to the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) or the office of the Commissioner of Police.
15. What’s the security rationale?
