President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been asked to urgently intervene in a brewing Federal-State face-off on the Lagos Coastal Road corridor following allegations that Lagos State officials backed by armed policemen attempted to arrest the head of a Federal Government Task Force.

In a petition dated September 10, 2026, a Lagos resident, Ismaila Alimi, alleged that the officials stormed Federal Government landed properties at Kuramo, Mayegun and Ilasan in Eti-Osa, demanding to see Mr Boomelin, head of the Federal task force charged with protecting Federal properties and enforcing the coastal highway setback, with the intent to arrest or intimidate him.

Alimi, who identified CSP Shola Jejeloye of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Tayo Akerele of the Lagos Task Force, Dr Jide Abiodun, Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, and Bldr. Omolola Florence Gbaye of the Lagos State Building Control Agency among those present, said operatives attached to the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation were also threatened during the September 4 encounter.

He further alleged that the Lagos officials returned on September 7 to forcibly enter the properties and mount real-estate billboards despite the Federal task force’s presence.

Alimi questioned who authorised the deployment of armed police to Federal properties and sought clarification over claims allegedly attributed to a senior Lagos official that the Federal Government has no land in Lagos and that all Federal land is vested in the governor.

He said the Federal intervention was prompted by concerns over encroachment, unauthorised allocations, multiple claims of title and poor management of Federal assets, and warned that irregularities should be resolved through investigation, not confrontation.

He therefore urged President Tinubu to order an immediate investigation, guarantee protection for the Federal task force, halt all construction and advertising on the disputed corridor pending verification, and direct the Surveyor-General of the Federation to carry out a comprehensive survey and demarcation of the coastal reservations.

“Lagos State remains an integral part of Nigeria and should operate within the limits of its constitutional and statutory powers,” Alimi said.

As of press time, the allegations could not be independently verified and efforts to get reactions from the Lagos State Government were ongoing.
