The Anambra police command says it has arrested a 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged case of child pornography in Onitsha.
Tochukwu Ikenga, police spokesperson in the state, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspect was arrested following open-source intelligence on a trending video allegedly showing a woman using sex toys on a minor.
Ikenga said the operation also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine.
He said sex toys and other items relevant to the investigation were recovered from the scene.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” the statement reads.
“The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
Nnanna Oji Ama, commissioner of police in Anambra, described the alleged act as unacceptable, particularly because it involves the exploitation and abuse of children.
He directed a thorough investigation into the case and ordered that the rescued children be provided with appropriate care and protection.
The command said it would work with child-protection agencies and other relevant organisations to ensure the children receive counselling and other necessary support.
The police also said the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the investigation.
The police commended vigilantes, bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and led to the arrest.
